Specialty Care Medical Director – Grand Rapids, MI – MD/DO

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a part time administrative and part time clinical, board eligible/board certified, physician to serve the Grand Rapids market as the University of Michigan Health Partners Specialty Care Medical Director (MMD). Candidate will need to coordinate and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure a positive experience for all patients, families, and staff. Experience partnering with community-based clinical affiliates, partnerships, and joint venture arrangements.

OPPORTUNITY DETAILS:

  • Maintain a strong culture within the group and system that prioritizes collaboration, respect and accountability.
  • Collaborate with Michigan Medicine and University of Michigan Medicine Medical Group leaders and academic clinical departments to ensure strategic alignment across the clinical, education, and research missions.
  • Identify opportunities and implement plans for continued growth which will include the recruitment and retention of physicians and succession planning for planned physician retirements.
  • Deliver the system, group, and scope annual budget and performance measures with accountability for your specific scope.
  • Work with the system in identifying expansion opportunities by location and service and develop and implement the plan for that expansion.
  • Responsible for the integration of future medical groups into the RMG resulting from Michigan Medicine system acquisitions within your scope.
  • Participate in developing and implementing the System’s Population Health Initiatives and integrate, related quality improvement initiatives with the RMG practice clinicians.

LEADERSHIP & STRATEGY

  • Directs work and performance of providers within scope.
  • Works with internal and external entities in achieving system-wide, group, and scope goals.
  • The MMD works with partners in the Clinical & Operational Leadership dyads spanning primary care, specialty care and surgical services, alongside embedded ancillary and other support services across the ambulatory care portfolio, Advanced Practice Practitioners, Physician Services & Recruitment, and Population Health
  • MMD collaborates closely with Corporate Service leaders that support RMG operations. o Finance o Revenue Cycle o Human Resources o IT & Informatics o Quality & Patient Safety o Legal o Compliance/ Risk
    o Strategy o Medical Staff Services
  • Works with internal and external entities in achieving system-wide, group, and scope goals.
  • Identifies trends and opportunities to improve performance.
  • Establishes consistent and routine communication updates across RMG stakeholders, providers, and staff to create mission alignment, unified messaging, standardized branding.
  • Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the scope for effective teamwork and motivation and fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives.
  • Encourages and supports diverse views and approaches, demonstrates alignment with Mission, Vision, Values, BASE+ strategic objectives, standards of respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients, and visitors.
  • Integrates diversity into departmental objectives, such as hiring, promotions, training, vendor selections, etc.
  • Maintains a part-time clinical practice in their specialty.

    OPERATIONS

  • Recommends performance expectations, staffing models/optimizations.
  • Assures the quality of services offered in scope, as well as the integration of services, programs, and practices.
  • Recommends the budgets for the areas managed. Manages activities to assure financial goals are met.

    QUALITY, PATIENT SA
  • Participates in performance improvement and patient safety initiatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.
  • Responsible for addressing all patient safety risks and closing patient safety performance gaps.
  • Ensures assigned scope complies with established policies, quality assurance programs, safety and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for improving the quality of care through continuous improvement programs.
  • Ensures compliance to all health and safety regulations and requirements.
