The Solutions Design Team is searching for an innovative and solutions oriented engineer to help design our next generation Amazon Fulfillment Centers (FCs), Sort Centers (SCs), and Amazon Logistics (AMZL). A successful candidate will have a passion for creating high-performance physical systems, a strong technical problem solving ability, excellent project management skills, the ability to effectively communicate with and influence stakeholders at all levels and internal motivation to deliver results in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment. The Solutions Design Team is not only responsible for examining and optimizing existing Robotic ATS performance, but combining those learnings with the latest technologies to design new state of the art robotic material handling systems.
Key job responsibilities
- Evaluate and create physical processing and material handling solutions using advanced technology, robotics, research and critical thinking to meet the product flow requirements based on Amazon design precepts.
- Identify and evaluate key operational and financial metrics as part of program and feature selection in order to drive smart outcomes.
- Coordinate with systems and operations engineering teams to develop product features and optimize the performance of the FCs, SCs and AMZLs.
- Manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and effectively influence, negotiate, and communicate with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors.
- Develop models as required to solve complex problems.
- Dive deep and be hands on to drive innovative and incremental improvements to physical processing and material handling solutions using advanced technology, robotics and data analytics to meet the product flow requirements based on Amazon design precepts. Own technical design projects in concert with your team.
- Inspire strategic design decisions by identifying and inspecting key operational and financial metrics. Develop models as required to solve complex problems and advocate for your team’s conclusions.
- Manage relationships with key global stakeholders, partners and customers to effectively influence, negotiate, and partner on systems design and integration all the way through building construction and startup.
- Coordinate with technology product management and systems engineering teams to develop next gen product features that further optimize the performance of Fulfillment Centers.
- Candidate would expected to travel up to 10%.

About the team
Working on future generation and advanced concepts. High level of ambiguity and design from scratch. Experience with system level design and expertise in advanced simulation and 3D modeling. In-person Detroit location only.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in industrial/mechanical engineering, or a related field and 10+ years related experience
- Master's degree in industrial/mechanical engineering, or a related field and 6+ years experience as an industrial engineer, process engineer, systems engineer, manufacturing engineer, project manager or related occupation.
- Experience using MS Excel, MS Project, AutoCAD, REVIT and commercial off the shelf technologies such as Tableau, SQL, etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with the designs of complex automated material handling equipment and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing.
- Experience developing large, highly automated, industrial systems to market from concept through commission and post-launch assistance/continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated use of investigative skills to solve complex engineering problems.
- Experience with process design based on Lean Principles and statistical evaluation.
- Use of computer programming (Python or similar) for use in data inspection and and/or workflow automations.
