This position executes product decisions against product, price, promotion, people and performance and negotiates with vendors for categories. Also provides leadership and strategic direction to the team for the categories to achieve the financial plan.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to the team.
  • Visit stores and marketplaces regularly to proactively solicit feedback from customers and sales managers.
  • Provide input and assists Pharmacy Inventory Manager on the Merchandise Financial plan.
  • Develop prescription drug formulary available for the stores.
  • Develop plans for direct purchasing of segments of the formulary.
  • Work with manufacturers and wholesaler partners to support selected formulary.
  • Participate with various buying groups and advocate Meijer positions.
  • Research and develop plans for new item introductions.
  • Coordinate generic prescription launches.
  • Solicit, contract, and manage 340B entity and processor relationships.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with branded and generic manufacturers.
  • Evaluate new product launches.
  • Evaluate initial stocking allowances and/or guaranteed sales agreements.
  • Solicit manufacturer funding for pharmacist/patient programs.
  • Evaluate therapeutic substitution programs.
  • Understand and manage the unique processes and requirements of vaccines and immunizations.
  • Wholesaler Relationships/Contracts.
  • Work with pharmacy equipment: Vials, Glassware, Scales
  • Pharmacy reverse logistics, salvage program, central depot process, vendor returns program.
  • Evaluate store pharmacy performance and develops individual, market and chain-wide strategic pharmacy growth plans.
  • Understand and develop the necessary processes and/or IT initiatives to keep the current and efficient Pharmacy Merchandise needs.
  • Develop and manage ad programs including in store marketing materials and CDM programs.
  • Coordinate annual Pharmacy Team Leader Impact Summit.
  • Report variances and actions to resolve with Director of Pharmacy Purchasing and Trade Relations.
  • Monitor and report on in-store and competitive activity as they relate to category performance.
  • Mentor, train and develop the Pharmacy Business Associates and Representatives.
  • Coordinate with compliance team regarding threshold/consumption reviews for wholesaler and manufacturers.
  • Coordinate with Meijer logistics and courier companies to resolve delivery issues.
  • Coordinate with supply chain partners to ensure product flow and address volume shift expectations.
  • Manage CSOS coordination and signing.
  • Coordinate with Meijer Accounts Payable/Receivables team to address payment concerns.
  • Manage recall coordination with Meijer Recall Team and analysts.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • 5-7-year university or college degree with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, (pre-2001) or Doctorate of Pharmacy, (post-2001).
  • 4+ years of experience in retail pharmacy operations.
  • Registered Pharmacist.
  • Buying, inventory or analysis experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory issues and requirements.
  • Knowledge of legislative and insurance environment.
  • Knowledge of the market, retail business and customers.
  • Knowledge of business drivers (e.g. pricing, promotion, assortment).
  • Planning skills.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Sense of product trends.
  • Enthusiasm, initiative and passion for retail.
  • Office computer skills; able to learn company systems and tools, preference for Microsoft application experience.
