GENERAL PURPOSE

Lead a team of Supply Management professionals. Identify, develop and implement supplier and product value stream improvement initiatives with assigned suppliers or commodities. This work is accomplished through effective use and support of the Strategic Sourcing process, Cost Targeting, Supplier Performance Planning, Supplier Development and Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assure team members understand expected results and the work processes required to achieve expected results.
  • Maintain understanding of actual vs. target achievement for each individual contributor and support them in closing gaps.
  • Develop and maintain a human resource plan for each direct report which lists the most important training needs necessary to improve performance in current job.
  • Perform work of direct reports when required to meet process or learning targets.
  • Based on facts observable on the shop floor, achieve agreement with supplier on current cost elements, use Lean Manufacturing tools and methodologies (MillerKnoll Performance System - MKPS) to build targets for future attainment.
  • Communicate and apply quality and engineering concepts at a high level with both internal and external resources, as required.
  • Cross-functional leadership in the process of conducting strategic sourcing for items or commodities with value from $5-$30 million.
  • Demonstrated application of lean manufacturing via MKPS philosophy and tools; coach the use of Plan, Do, Check and Act (PDCA) process; implement standard work; and utilize value stream maps to document material and information flow to highlight and solve problems.
  • Develop, lead negotiation, and implement contracts with value of $5-$30 million.
  • Identify opportunities and collaborate with engineers and suppliers to implement cost improvements Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE).
  • Lead and manage at least four professional Supply Management employees with a minimum commodity spend of $30 million.
  • Responsible for relationship management of assigned suppliers; successfully align suppliers' operating plans to achieve MillerKnoll’s business objectives.
  • Responsible for managing team spend up to $130 million and at least $4 million in annual cost savings.
  • Travel up to 15%, including international travel.
  • Understand and apply formal project management principles to work, as appropriate. Influence others to meet milestones and coordinate work of others. Lead cross-functional project teams.
  • Use market analysis to understand global influences within the supply base and create strategies to leverage these dynamics for MillerKnoll’s benefit.
  • Work may cross countries or global regions. Successfully build and maintain contracts and relationships which span country and/or regional borders.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, materials management, finance, engineering or operations management required.
  • Master's Degree preferred; CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) desired.
  • Minimum of 6 years in a professional procurement role with exposure to a variety of manufacturing processes and commodities.
  • Experience with plastics and injection molding preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in managing professionals preferred.
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of business operations, including Finance, Accounting, Legal, Manufacturing, Materials Management, Engineering, Quality, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to do complex cost analysis and to apply Lean (MKPS) thinking to supplier process and value streams.
  • Demonstrated successful negotiation skills.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skill.
  • Understanding of prepared financial statements; ability to interpret and assign meaning to income statements, cash flow statements, and balance sheets.
  • Skilled at working with individuals at various organizational levels within and outside of MillerKnoll
  • Ability to think and act quickly, creatively and independently to resolve major supply disruptions affecting customers.
  • Ability to hold one's ground when defending a sourcing issue with either internal or external people.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use office automation/communication software and tools currently being used in the MillerKnoll office environment.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
