This position will require you to be on site in Grand Rapids, MI Monday through Wednesday with the option to work remote on Thursdays and Fridays.

This position is a senior level role on the Advanced Analytics team. This role is responsible for developing and applying advanced analytic techniques primarily in support of Meijer’s Real Estate team, with emphasis on GIS/mapping, sales forecasting and market densification, and location strategy.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Responsible for delivering impact to the organization’s performance by:
  • providing expert analytical support and thought leadership primarily for the Real Estate team and other relevant teams throughout the business
  • executing against analytics-based business opportunities
  • developing and applying analytical tools and approaches that improve the efficiency of the organization and inform Meijer’s real estate strategy.
  • Contribute subject matter expertise and methodological design for all aspects of Meijer real estate analysis and store location strategy, including: sales forecasting, market densification, competitive/cannibalistic transfer, trade area analysis, void analysis, and other methods.
  • Take on leadership approach to the real estate analytics track and champion adoption of geospatial tools and data across Meijer organization.
  • Mentor and develop junior real estate analyst(s)
  • Leverage web-based and desktop GIS solutions to evaluate new and existing store locations and markets using geodemographics, competitor data, mobile foot traffic, and internal Meijer data.
  • Develop reporting infrastructure to prepare, analyze, and disseminate authoritative real estate portfolio data/insights across Meijer organization.
  • Effectively communicate business analysis and locational insights to Real Estate customers.
  • Keep customer at the center of analytic approach, analysis and solutions and partner with cross functional teams to drive customer centered focus at Meijer.
  • Collaborate with other advanced analysts supporting various areas of the business

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography/GIS, Data Analytics, Planning, Economics, or other quantitative field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5-10 years business experience in analytics (Real Estate analytics preferred) and location research/strategy (big box retail or grocery industry preferred).
  • Expert knowledge of the development and logics of spatial models (analog, gravity, spatial econometrics, location-allocation, etc.)
  • Expert knowledge of desktop GIS software.
  • Expert knowledge of SQL, Python, or other programming language.
  • Experience with supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms (random forest, gradient boosting, clustering, etc.)
  • Experience with mobile insights platform (Placer.ai, Unacast, Azira, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience with dashboarding software (Power BI, Tableau, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience in an Advanced Analytics environment working with retail data in Databricks (preferably at large retailer).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and Databricks (or similar) preferred.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Excellent communication skills: listening, verbal and written.
  • Experience developing communications and presenting to leadership and business partners
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills with ability to prioritize multiple/competing projects and assignments.
