As the Clark Foundation Legacy & Philanthropy Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our organization through the cultivation of major and planned gifts. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will be responsible for identifying and building enduring relationships with donors, inspiring them to make transformative investments that align with their values and the mission of Clark Retirement Community. You will develop and implement strategic giving plans, working closely with donors to craft personalized giving and legacy opportunities. This role requires a blend of visionary thinking, relationship-building expertise, and a deep commitment to making an impact on the lives of older adults through sustainable philanthropy.

Job Summary

  • Planning and leading the major and planned giving program.
  • Researching major/planned gift donor prospects
  • Growing relationships with major gift donors
  • Developing a donor solicitation strategy for major/planned giving prospects.
  • Designing and operating a donor stewardship program

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of major and planned giving prospects and donors to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward supporters. Collaborate with the Executive Director to identify and assign donors and stewardship activities.
  • Conduct face to face visits with Heritage Society members/prospects and major planned gift prospects. Create additional giving society opportunities.
  • Create written proposals, gift agreements, renewal letters, newsletters and other donor communications.
  • Participate in planned giving donor events for Clark, including planning, execution, and speaking roles, as required. Work in partnership with the Barnabas Foundation.
  • Document donor contacts in Donor Perfect following established protocols.
  • Provide regular reports on prospect management and fundraising results.


Strategic Planning

Work directly with the Executive Director and trustees to develop and assist in strategic direction of the Foundation including donor portfolios, creative fundraising events, employee giving initiative, recurring gift strategy, grant opportunities and other projects in the Development Plan.

Community Outreach, Events & Relationship Development

  • Participate in the Clark Foundation Donor Relations Committee.
  • Become an active participant of the Leading Ladies Committee
  • Attend community events and programs.
  • Build effective working relationships with trustees, attorneys, estate planners, financial advisors and other professionals involved in providing services to donors.
  • Continue professional development to increase knowledge in estate planning techniques and principles.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience in the non-profit sector preferred
  • Five or more years of experience in prospect management, donor cultivation, and major gift fund development
  • Familiarity with and experience in capital campaigns
  • Identifiable and proven record of the ability to secure major gifts
  • Experience working closely with high net-worth individuals, families, and professional advisors.

  • Ability and eagerness to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues in multiple departments.
  • Strong customer service ethic
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize, and employ time management skills.
  • Experience with fundraising databases and CRM software, Donor Perfect preferred.
